** What is a fixed provisional, and how is that different from the final prosthesis?

Provisional teeth are made of PMMA and ceramic materials. They look, feel, and function like natural teeth. On the day of surgery, your provisional teeth are placed on the dental implants and remain in place for 3-6 months, allowing the appropriate amount of time for your jaw bone to adhere to the implants. After your bone securely heals to the implants, you will then return to design your final “forever” teeth, usually made of zirconia, or other high-quality material determined by your Doctor

    The Dental Implant Procedure

    Initial Consultation

Your journey starts with a full check-up at our dental clinic. During this visit, our team will examine your teeth, discuss your goals, and determine whether dental implants are right for you. We might use X-rays and 3D pictures to check your jaw and plan the treatment.

    Placement of the Implant

If you’re a good candidate for dental implants near you, we’ll proceed with placing the dental implant. This involves a minor surgical procedure in which a titanium post is inserted into your jawbone. We use local anesthesia to ensure you’re comfortable throughout the process. Over time, the implant will fuse with the bone in a process called osseointegration, which typically takes a few months.

    Attaching the Abutment

Once the implant has joined with the bone, a small piece called an abutment is attached. This abutment connects the implant to the new tooth. It sits above the gums and may need a small procedure to put it in place.

    Fitting the Artificial Tooth

After the abutment is ready and your gums have healed, we’ll take a mould of your mouth to make a custom tooth (crown) that fits just right. The crown is then attached to the abutment, completing your dental implant.

    Follow-Up Care

Regular follow-up appointments after getting dental implants in NW Calgary are essential to monitor the implant’s health and ensure everything is functioning correctly. Our team will provide instructions on how to care for your new implant to ensure its longevity.

    FAQ's

    1. What are dental implants?

Dental implants are titanium posts surgically placed into the jawbone to replace missing teeth. They act as artificial tooth roots and provide a stable base for attaching crowns, bridges, or dentures.

    2. How long do dental implants last?

With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime. However, the crown placed on the implant may need to be replaced every 10-15 years due to wear.

    3. Are dental implants painful?

The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia, so you should not feel any pain during the surgery. Post-surgery discomfort can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain relief medication.

    4. Am I a candidate for dental implants?

Most healthy adults are candidates for dental implants. Ideal candidates have good oral health and sufficient jawbone density to support the implant. A consultation with your dentist will help determine if you’re suitable.

    5. How long does the dental implant process take?

The process usually takes several months. It includes the implant placement, a healing period for the bone to fuse with the implant (osseointegration), and the attachment of the crown or other restorations. The total timeline can vary based on individual needs.
